This is true to a certain extent. We actually only import 1/3 of our oil from the MIddle East. 2/3 is from Canada and Mexico. If we can find 1/3 of our energy in oil, oil from coal, oil shells, and alternative then we would essentially be free. This, I believe is a realistic possibility as a short term gain. Using these we could be independent in 20-30 years.

I think we should just supply ourselves with just our oil. We have enough to last us for many years. While doing so I say yes to finding real alternative energy sources that would make it cheaper for everyone to fuel their cars, houses, etc.

In a time where oil keeps going up we cannot just jump on the next bandwagon (like ethanol) just to find that it makes everything worse. Let’s use what we have, in which we have plenty, and lower the prices down. Then we would have more money for research anyways.

Right of course. What I was saying is that we should do them all. We should use oil AND all of that other stuff. Oil is key to us functioning now, because that is what our cars are designed to work on. But, we should also be developing other technologies for use in the future.

Yup, and I totally agree. It seems that many liberals, and some others too, think that using our own oil wouldn’t bring down the price, but I think it would. They say the speculators are the ones who drive prices up, but I say they drive prices up because of what is happening in the countries who are supplying this oil to us. If we used are oil, in which we have plenty to support ourselves for years, then they wouldn’t have to speculate much, because all we need to do is just supply and demand, and since we have a lot of supply and a lot of demand, it will at least be cheaper than it is now.

But yes, I believe we should research alternative fuels, but I only want it to be cheaper. I want it to be researched enough where it will show no other effect of prices of other products (except lower it of course), and make it where it can be easily changed with other cars. I don’t want to be forced by the government to go buy a very expensive car due to alternative energy, I want it to be a revolution of sorts - an alternative energy revolution - where everyone decides by themselves to change over, with very little government involvement. The automobiles should be cheaper, the fuel should be much cheaper, and everyone should agree that it is better than what we have now.
