Lawmakers Want Higher Gas Tax?

I know what your thinking, higher taxes? Seems like the liberal effect from Obama is taking effect before he is even in office. With gas prices going up, and Congress not fully together on the “Drill Here, Drill Now” idea, and we don’t have the technology to have better sources of fuel, might as well screw over Americans even more by raising taxes, and gas prices at that!As of now, the taxes of regular gasoline is 18.4 cents per gallon, and 24.3 per gallon on diesal. That’s right, with gas prices rising already, your lawmakers want to raise it up by a dime, makes the taxes 28.4 and 34.3 cents respectivly. They say this is to raise money the government doesn’t have to fix our road system back up.

Seriously? Why not spend less than what you have. Learn how to budget the money you have instead of creating more for yourself? With all the spending the government is doing, spending that isn’t even helping out this country at all, the government wants more of it. I say no.

The gas tax holiday plan was stoped dead - I personally didn’t think that was such a good idea either. So, Americans want cheaper gas, let’s give them cheaper gas. Drill here, drill now, and lower the prices down, lower them a bunch. Then doing so, we maybe wouldn’t mind a 10 cent increase, as it would still be lower than what we are paying now.

I say this though - if we had systems like the APT tax, or even the Fair Tax, we wouldn’t have to worry about this. The government would already have to money, and with less corruption, and less spending, the government would have a lot of money to bring the United States back to the top of the world - where we need to be.

Congress, Especially those Dems, REALLY don’t get it!

This is bullsh@t. What is going through these people’s minds. This is type of story that the liberal media will always ignore. As stated above, Congress should just spend more wisely, not tax more. Gas costs enough now. Yet the Dems claim the Repubs are elitist.

The APT tax eliminates the FEDERAL gas tax along with all other excise taxes immediately and permanently.

@JP - I haven’t even heard this on any news channel. I just found this on CNN’s website, but not even they have talked about when I’m flipping through news stations.

@wjhermann - Yes, we wouldn’t have to worry about Congress wanting to add more taxes with the APT tax, as we would be making more money with that then we do now, plus it is fair. I think if more people knew about it more people would get behind it.

Bradley, I’m in awe. As young as you are, you certainly are into these heavy duty topics. I mostly leave these to the political heavyweights, but every now and then, I voice out my opinions. But with you, you’re truly commited to get involved when most in your age group don’t pay any attention. I truly commend you in your interest to what’s going on in the world. One day when you become a president, I can say that I knew you way back when. Hehe. Hey, don’t be shy to stop and comment in my blog if you like. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the compliments. I love politics, and I do see myself in politics in the future. I love to talk politics, and I really love to debate. It’s just what I love to do I guess. And one day when I become president, I’ll look back and I will remember everyone who has helped me get there, and for everyone who has commented on this blog, I will considered them very helpful, as well as for all of America and especially for everyone who will vote for me. But it will be quite a while until my dreams can come true, and I just hope that in that long time that the United States can fix itself and make itself better.

Since you like to debate, I can recommend some bloggers who like to debate also. Here they are:

    1. http://michiganrafter.blogspot.com/ Matthew S. Urdan. He’s not all political, but he loves to debate. He had said that he was in the debate teams in highschool. He’s not a Consevative, from what I gathered.

    2. http://matt-speak.blogspot.com/ Matt-Speak. He’s heavy on political issues and human rights issues, and he’s a Conservative.

    3. http://vulcanhammer.blogspot.com/ Vulcan Hammer. He’s into world affairs as well, but more on the economy and financial issues. I believe he leans more to the left, politically.

Give them a visit and see if they’re your cup of soda pop. (I substituted tea for soda pop, since you probably dont drink tea. Hehe.)

I agree with the comment of spend less instead of taxing more.

I would be ok with a gas tax if it reduces another tax, say capital gains. It would encourage people to drive less, conserve more and reduce investment penalties (capital gains).

    Bradley,

Oops, I goofed. I’d like to make a correction about Vulcan Hammer. I should have said that he leans more to the right, politically, than to the left.

Of course they want to tax gasoline as much as possible. More money they can throw away on useless things like the war in Iraq. The US government has a lot more influence and power than the governments of other countries do, and that’s a bad thing. They can spend our money however they choose, and there isn’t a damn thing we can do about it.

The logical answer would be to drill for new oil resources. But the logical answer wouldn’t benefit Big Oil, as they would have to spend more money on research and development. They would rather line their pockets and those of the Bush administration than help the people of their own country.

@xmarks I am not in favor of any increase in taxes. I say we need to lower them, for everyone. The more money people have, the more money people will spend.

@tasha No problem, I already visit that sight almost every day.

@ shaxx It’s no problem, thanks for the linkback

@mikey777 I really don’t think the war is that big of a waste, but I do think it could of been managed better. I’m for promoting freedom for other countries, and after September 11th, I was all for going over to the Middle East and capturing the people who did this horrific crime. Even though Iraq was a little detour, it was strategic, but as I said, I would of liked it to be managed differently.
